Blackpool dressage rider Hayley Colwell stormed to victory in the Centaur Biomechanics Preliminary Championship riding Zidaane, a seven-year-old Dutch-bred gelding by Jazz. The pair clinched the victory on a convincing score of 71.52%. “I’m thrilled with him today,” said Hayley. “He’s only been competing for a year as although he’s seven, he’s missed two years’ education. We sold him as a just-broken four-year-old and unfortunately he didn’t gel with his new owner so we bought him back. She still likes to follow his progress though, which is nice.” “He lives out in the field 24/7 as he’s quite sharp and has some issues,” explained Hayley. “Even so, he has a great work ethic and is always up for the job, especially at a competition. Hayley, who works for Astrid Bolton backing and starting off the youngsters, has a second championship ride tomorrow when she will ride Zidaane in the Novice Restricted Championship.
